Mid July – early August transport situation

Sea transport

CHINA – USA route

The North American import demand is continuing to decline. The freight rates show a slight downward trend. The trucker protest shuts down the operations at California port and affects Los Angeles and Oakland port, causing congestion and delays.

China – Latin America route

We see and expect an easing supply tightness on the South American West Coast. But the overall space situation remains tight, especially on the South American East Coast. There are no signs of change until the beginning of August. The freight rates will continue to increase slightly.

China – Europe route

The space and container situations are relatively relaxed. The rates are continuing to drop. Strikes in Germany still affect the port situation in some of the major European ports. The congestion challenges will continue.

China – Mediterranean route

There are no significant space and equipment changes. The overall situation remains tight. Also, next month we expect the rate level to stay the same with no significant fluctuations.

The major ports in China, incl Tianjin, Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, experience minor congestion.

Air transport

China – Europe route

The capacity is recovered, and the demand remained steady over the last two weeks. We expect no changes in the freight rates. Strikes and labor shortages lead to heavy congestion at European airports and a cargo backlog at the terminals.

China – USA route

We expect the freight rates to decrease within the next weeks continuously. The wildfire on the west side is still affecting the supply chain, causing delays and container accumulations.

China – Asia pacific route

The general air freight demand on this route increased, and the freight rate level remained stable. We do not expect freight rate changes in the following weeks.

The signs of global recession might be a reason for the general decrease in air freight demand. Pharma and dangerous goods, incl chemicals, belong to the high-demand sector. (Source: World ACD)
